ASES
The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program provides an opportunity to improve assistance to students and broaden the base of support for education in a safe, constructive environment. The ASES program will be offered to our 4th – 9th grade students. Outside of the regular instruction and in-class intervention methods, ASES provides an extension of learning and enrichment.
ASES curriculum is developed to closely align with the regular curriculum. Through the integration (but not repetition) of the regular curriculum, ASES students reiterate core concepts and Common Core State Standards (CCSS) standards leading to increased understanding and application. During ASES, students are also provided homework assistance to encourage homework completion and positive study habits.
In addition to academic enrichment, the LECS ASES program incorporates an educational enrichment element that includes various programs and activities that are designed to complement the academic component in developing the student as a whole. Educational enrichment may include: socio-emotional and interpersonal skill development, mentoring and positive youth development, visual and performing arts, creative arts, and physical activity.
The ASES program is offered Monday through Friday, from the time of dismissal until 6:00 p.m., coinciding with each school site's daily schedule and school calendar.
Each ASES tutor will work with a group of up to 21 students to fulfill their daily tasks consisting of providing tutoring and homework assistance, and facilitating educational enrichment. Specifically, each tutor will be provided a pacing guide that delineates which corresponding supplemental worksheets, videos, and activities should be used to facilitate the lesson and create a clear and direct correlation with what is taught in the classroom. All tutors receive intensive training on topics including but, not limited to classroom management, facilitation, intervention/technology programs (Carnegie, iReady, Collections, etc.), and basic job training (human resources and employee conduct).
